Improve Your Immune System Before Schools Reopen in September

Updated: Sep 16, 2020

If genie gave you a health portion to drink and promised you will never get sick, would you drink it? I haven't been sick in 4 years and I am sharing you everything I do on a daily basis and how I went from a person who got sick regularly to the person I am today in this blog!

Healthy Diet

There's one thing we need to avoid this school year is for us to get sick and put our bodies in a vulnerable position in order to do that we have to make sure we have a strong immune system. Our immune system consists of different types of white blood cells that help us identify and kill pathogens like viruses. In order to make sure our immune system is strong the least we could do is to ensure the health and production of these white blood cells

don't worry i'm going to save you a biology lesson here but basically what

we need to do is to make sure our diet is rich in fatty food vitamin D,

A and C.

Vitamin D

The best source of vitamin D is sunlight but living in Canada, some of us might have a difficult time spending time under the sun light most of the year.

- Eggs

- Fatty Fish such as wild salmon, tune and sardines

- Mushrooms

Vitamin A

Some of the bed resources for vitamin A are:

- Muscles

- Egg Yolk

- Cod Liver Oil

- Butter

- Spinach

- Dairy Product

- Orange Veggies and fruits like carrots and oranges

Remember Vitamin A and D are fat soluble and it's better to take the supplements with fatty food. I usually take my cod liver oil right after I have my wild salmon.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C on the other hand is water soluble and it boosts your immune

system like crazy it actually helps with the

production of the white cells that we mentioned earlier. It protects you against infection you can get your vitamin C through a lot of delicious fruit some of them are my favorite!

- Papaya

- Strawberries

- Guava

- Kale

- Bell pepper

- Broccoli

Zinc (Zn)

Zinc is one of the most important trace minerals found in your body and it plays a big role in your immune system.

You can get it from

- Wholegrain

- Red meat

- Baked beans

- Nuts (pecan, almond and walnut)

- Seeds (pumpkin seeds, chia seeds and etc)

Avocado, garlic, ginger, apples, tomatoes and turmeric are great additions to your diet.

Get Quality Sleep

Living the city lives that we live we need at least seven to eight hours of sleep if you're a teenager you need at least nine hours of sleep to fully recover you can be consuming all the healthy food in the world your diet could be on point but if you're not getting enough sleep

your body is not producing Melatonin and it's gonna weaken your immune system.

Avoid Stress & Drama

I know this is a stressful time; your family is stressing out, you have to go to school wearing a mask five hours per day.

You have to be writing tests, passing exams and making everybody happy while wearing a mask. Not to mention the drama that your

friends circle will bring for you.

I'm not asking you to become the Buddha overnight but what I will ask you to let things go before they start stressing you out too much because it will affect your immune system directly.

It also really helps if you create a nightly routine to kind of relax and calm down before bed for myself I really like lighting up an incense listening to yoga music stretch and then go to bed. I know i'm old so they don't make fun of me! What are some things you like to do before you go to sleep when you are stressed out?
